Tales of a Korean Grandmother: 32 Traditional Tales from Korea

Written by Frances Carpenter

Published by Tuttle Publishing; Reprint edition on April 11, 2017

This book has stories of traditional folklore of Korea. Stories in this book are like The Brother Grimm or Mother Goose in the western culture. Frances Carpenter collected and compiled the thirty-two classic stories of Korean children.

This multicultural literacy work for children contribute to diversity perspective regarding to cultural aspects. I was impressed that this book was compiled by the non-Korean author. This culture could be considered as minority culture, but I appreciate for people who are willing to learn about other culture. I am Korean who grew up hearing these stories from my grandmother, and was so happy to see these stories with English. I think this book definitely contribute to diversity in children’s literature. The author also complied lots of different Folklore books by other culture as well. This book honors diversity and treat them important.
